That beeping is the 'Timer Paused Reminder' sound.

In our extensive testing, we have found that it is very common for the timekeeper to forget to start the timer - especially when it is their turn and they are suddenly focused on their own turn.  The Timer Paused Reminder was added as a regular audio cue (every 10 seconds) - reminding you that the timer is not running.

You can turn this audio cue off in the in-game settings - just set the Paused Reminder sound to 'None' if you don't want the reminder.

Again - in our extensive testing we have seen a tendency to set the reminder sound to something really hard to ignore (like the sheep) so the timekeeper is kept on their toes throughout the game.

There have been some other suggested improvements around this - please feel free to add your voice - open a ticket with your suggestions!

Some suggestions are:

 - have an initial delay before the reminder sounds for each turn.  Essentially give enough time to pay out resources (often more than 10 seconds) before playing the reminder.

 - start the timer automatically for each turn.  Rather than just remind you, the timer could wait for some time to allow resources to be paid out, and then start automatically.  No reminder necessary.

Since the time it takes to pay our resources varies depending on the type of game and the stage of the game, these solutions would be a challenge to get right, so for now we have opted for the simplicity of a regular reminder.
